Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - A costly penalty by Benoit Pouliot led to the Reds Wings game-winning goal with 34 seconds remaining in regulation as Detroit pulled out a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Jordan Eberles second goal of the night evened things at 2-2 late in the third period, but Pouliots head-scratching spearing penalty with 2:29 on the clock put the Oilers in a bind. A scrum in front resulted in the puck getting accidentally knocked into the net by Edmontons Matt Hendricks with time winding down. Pavel Datsyuk was credited with the goal, and Luke Glendening sealed things with an empty- netter. Justin Abdelkader and Kyle Quincey also scored for the Red Wings, who have won eight straight against the Oilers and four of six overall. We were getting a lot of chances out there, Quincey said. Were happy to come out of here with two points. Jimmy Howard made 21 saves to pick up the win, while his counterpart, Vikor Fasth, posted 37 saves in defeat. Eberle scored a power-play goal at the 15:29 mark of the first period, and Detroit pulled even midway through the middle stanza. Quincey caught a fortunate bounce when his first shot hit off a defensemans skate and fell back on his stick. Fasth was on his knees for the original shot, and Quincey went top shelf for his second goal of the season. Eberle was whistled for tripping with 1:40 remaining, and on the first shift after the penalty, the Red Wings won a faceoff in the offensive zone and set up Niklas Kronwall at the point. Abdelkaders deft deflection of Kronwalls slap shot found a space between Fasths pads and went in at the 18:29 mark. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up the tying goal by threading the needle with a cross-ice pass between Howard and a defenseman, and Eberle cashed in with 4:05 remaining. "I felt rusty to tell you the truth but it felt good to be back out there. I made a lot of open shots and I think I did a good job defensively to help my team win," Favors said. Utah coach Ty Corbin was glad to see Favours back on the court. "He does so many good things for us on the defensive end, it really makes it easy for the other guys," said Corbin, whose team is 0-9 without his star centre. In the games Favors has missed, its easy to see the Jazz struggle to defend. Even the soft-spoken big man can see the void when hes on the sidelines. "They are a step slow on the defensive end. Usually Im the only guy who helps out when guys make mistakes. Im the guy who bails them out," Favors said. On the offensive end, Alec Burks is the guy who bails out the Jazz when the play breaks down or the shot clock nears zero. Burks scored 21 points and his instant offence helped keep the Celtics at bay but he knows Utahs limited success this season is keyed by defence. "Having that defensive anchor, that man-child down there helps us a lot," Burks said. "When we see he is also confident in his shot, it makes the whole team confident."
